I am always talking about my ‘big’ milestone sessions – maternity, newborn and cake smashes. But one milestone session that I often forget to share about as much are my sitter shoots!
A sitter shoot happens once your little one has mastered confidently sitting up, unaided. They provide the perfect opportunity to get some updated family photos, as your little one will be able to do big, cheesy grins, clap their little chubby hands and interact more with siblings (or even a pet pooch!).
It’s at this stage that your little one’s personality really begins to shine through. They giggle, they are engaged and they may even be able to move around independently, getting themselves into some funny positions that can make for some adorable photos. It’s quite a different experience to a newborn shoot, but an experience that’s well worth it!
Sitter shoots can be the perfect time to get updated sibling shots too. At a newborn session, everything is so fresh and new. Depending on the age gap, you may find that siblings are reluctant to cooperate with a newborn shoot, as they may be wary of their new baby brother or sister. However, at a sitter shoot, enough time has passed for a relationship to have developed, and you might find that your older children are happier to pose cuddling your baby or even sitting them on their lap!
I like to think that a sitter shoot really completes the ‘set’ of milestone photos when you have a baby. It can be quite nice to display a photo from each of your newborn, sitter and cake smash shoots side by side to show just how much your little one has grown and changed over the course of a year.
Those first twelve months go so quickly – let me help you to document as much of it as you can so that you have some precious memories you can look back on in the years to come.
