No one wants to consider planning for a rainy wedding day. But sadly, despite spending months – or even years – planning every other detail of your special day, you cannot plan the weather!
An old wives tale claims that rain on a wedding day is actually extremely good luck! We often refer to a wedding as “tying the knot”. Rain supposedly means your marriage will last, as when a knot becomes wet it is much more difficult to untie. If you get married on a rainy day, your marriage is supposed to be just as hard to undo!
It can feel disappointing if your wedding day is a wet one, but it doesn’t have to be the end of the world. As a wedding photographer, I’ve shot in all weathers and have learnt a thing or two whilst doing so. It is still entirely possible to capture magical moments and special memories around your wedding location in the rain. Here are some of my tips to help you embrace the weather, whether you have grey skies or blue…
Don’t panic
Easier said than done, I know – but hear me out! The last thing you need on the day of your wedding is to feel stressed about something you quite literally can’t control. If you’re stressed and panicked, it’s going to affect how you feel about the rest of the day. Take a moment to feel the disappointment, if that’s how you feel, then take a deep breath and remind yourself you’re about to have the most magical day surrounded by all those who love you most as you marry the love of your life. Who cares if it’s raining? You’re going to have an amazing day anyway, I guarantee it!
Buy umbrellas anyway!
Booked a wedding for the middle of August? You probably aren’t planning for a rainy wedding day. My tip? Buy umbrellas anyway! Think about what kind of umbrellas you might want. Do you want clear ones that don’t detract from your colour scheme, or coloured ones that fit right in? Do you want umbrellas for the newlyweds, or for the entire wedding party? It’s another detail to consider but it covers all bases then, and can help reduce any panic on the big day of any grey clouds appear.
Don’t stress about the photos
As your wedding photographer, that’s my job – it’s up to me to adapt to the changing weather to make sure I still capture some stunning photographs that you can cherish forever. Don’t worry about where your photos will be taken or how your dress will look or the best way to pose whilst protecting your hair and makeup… I’ve got it covered.
The weather shouldn’t become a source of stress on your big day. You can’t control it or do anything about it – all you can do is roll with it! I promise to capture the magic of your wedding day whether the sun is shining or not. Check out my gorgeous couples below where ALL of these images were taken in the rain - you couldn't tell right?
