As a newborn and family photographer, sharing images from my sessions on my website, in my blog posts and on my social media platforms is part and parcel of the job. I have to be able to show off what I can do.
But in an ever-changing world, and with concerns about how images are used online constantly growing, this is an issue that often plays on my mind.
How best can I keep my clients safe? How can I keep my clients happy?
It’s definitely a tricky situation to navigate and it’s one I consider often.
Supporting my clients and their child’s privacy
It’s a given that when you book a shoot with me, as part of the little questionnaire I send you before your shoot, I ask if I have permission to share the images online. You can say no – and even if you originally say yes, you can change your mind at any point! None of your images will be shared anywhere other than directly with yourself, without your consent.
There are only three people who will see your images – me, my assistant who has access to all my image galleries, and you.
Capturing photos without exposing your child’s identity
Having a new baby is so exciting! Obviously, you want to share your new bundle of joy with your friends and family – and usually, the quickest and easiest way to do this is with photos. Before, most people would share a photo to announce their child’s arrival on social media without a second thought.
However, with the development of social media, parents are now becoming a bit more wary about exposing their children online.
I can help you to work around this complex situation! During your session with me, I can make sure I capture lots of photos that can be shared safely online without exposing your little one’s identity. I’m talking close ups of little fists wrapped around your finger, tiny toes and gorgeous heads full of hair. There are so many options that I can capture for you so you can still share your new arrival online without worrying about sharing their face with the rest of the world.
Feeling worried? Let’s have a chat!
