Chris & Fiona's London Wedding

When Chris and Fiona booked me to capture their wedding celebrations at The Depot in London, I was so excited! I had never visited this venue before and had also never captured a ceremony with Chinese traditions woven throughout, so this was a real first for me. I met Chris and Fiona at a wedding I photographed in Surrey. It's always so rewarding to be booked by previous wedding guests, as they get a real feel for exactly how I work on the day.

Whilst these guys legally got married a few years ago, their special day in London was all about celebrating their union and having a lot of fun with their loved ones, and nodding to Fiona's heritage!

The day started with Fiona’s bridal prep at their home in London. Whilst this was ongoing, they were suddenly interrupted with a ‘gate crash’, a Chinese tradition where the groom is tested by the bride and her bridesmaids with a series of games and pranks, to try and prove he is worthy of marrying his wife! For Chris, this meant retrieving a house key from a block of ice, eating something spicy, something sweet, something disgusting and something bitter, demonstrating a few tricky yoga poses and singing a love song. Luckily, Chris passed the tests with flying colours – and I was there to catch it all on camera so that some of those yoga poses can never be forgotten!

Another tradition the couple incorporated into the day was a Chinese tea ceremony, where the bride and groom serve tea to their elders and receive gifts in return. This was a lovely, intimate moment between the family, and it felt really special to be able to document this moment for them.

Both Fiona and Chris looked rather regal in their beautiful traditional Chinese attire and were full of smiles and laughter, love and happiness as they walked through the streets and parks of North London. Their laughter was just infectious and there were giggles all round as I snapped away, documenting this special one on one time Chris and Fiona were enjoying together. I honestly could have photographed these guys for hours!

The Depot in London was a gorgeous venue for their reception – high ceilings, big, glass windows letting in lots of natural light and twinkling fairylights. I loved it! The reception was followed by a cocktail hour, with Fiona changing into a stunning white dress adorned with intricate beaded and sequinned designs. As the live band started to play, the celebrations really got underway, with plenty of singing and dancing.

There was no place else I wanted to be. The room was full of energy, happiness and joy, and it was a pleasure to capture this for them to help them savour these magical memories. I hope these photographs from their special day continue to bring them as much joy and happiness as they felt then, for the rest of their lives together.
